Energy Efficiency Incentive Program (EEIP)


The Energy Efficiency Incentive Program (EEIP) was designed to help homeowners and consumers purchase new, more energy efficient models of products that they use every day. Buying energy efficient products will help you save energy costs while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
We are pleased to inform you that as of August 1st, 2011 there will be several increases in the rebates available. They are as follows:
- Wood stoves and Pellet Stoves will now receive 25% of the purchase price for the stove (not including installation or extra parts) up to a maximum of $700.
- Wood Pellet Boilers or Furnaces now receive a higher rebate through AETP program (please see other letter for details)
- Condensing Fuel Fired Hot Water Heaters in non-hydroelectricity communities now receive a $1,000 rebate
- Instantaneous Hot Water Heaters are now required to be .90 EF but receive a higher rebate of $700
- Outboard Motors that have a CARB four-star rating receive $350 for less than 30 hp and $600 for 30 hp or greater. Rebates for CARB three-star motors remain the same
- Oil furnaces for Mobile Homes are now required to have 83% AFUE
- All other rebates remain the same as last year

How the EEIP Works
1. Purchase an eligible product from a participating NWT dealer.

2. Complete the application form
Attach to the application form a copy of the sales receipt and, if provided, a copy of ENERGY STAR or CARB 3 / 4 documentation. Make sure the sales receipt (proof of purchase) clearly indicates payment in full, the amount paid, and the make and model of the product.

3. Mail, fax or deliver the application form and a copy of the sales receipt to the Arctic Energy Alliance.

This program is available to all NWT residents, businesses and non-profit organizations.

Program will be in the form of a mail-in rebate for energy efficient appliances, heating appliances, outboard motors, residential insulation, doors, windows and drain water heat recovery systems.

Application for rebate needs to be recieved by AEA within 1 year of the purchase date on the receipt.

EEIP provides matching grants that NWT residents receive through Natural Resources Canada's ecoENERGY Retrofit program on qualifying retrofits of insulation, air sealing, doors, windows and skylights.

Only products specified within this guideline are eligible for rebates. Please check with Arctic Energy Alliance for exact listing of products that qualify.

Only products purchased through NWT dealers are eligible for full rebates. Products purchased outside of the NWT but within Canada are eligible for 50% of the NWT rebate. Click for a list of participating dealers.

Residents can apply for more than one rebate, to a maximum of: two heating appliances; two refrigerator and washing machines; two toilets; two outboard motors; 20 windows and doors; one drain water heat recovery system; and home insulation (pre-approval is required), for the duration of this program.

Each non-profit organization and business can apply for more than one rebate to the following maximums: five heating appliances; five refrigerators and washing machines; five toilets; five outboard motors; 50 windows and doors; five drain water heat recovery systems; and five insulation packages (pre-approval is required), for the duration of this program.

The Arctic Energy Alliance cannot be responsible for lost, late, incomplete or unreadable applications.

Rebates are available as long as funds allocated by the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories remain available.

Final approval will be made by the Executive Director of AEA.
