Doors, Windows & DWHR Systems
The GNWT Department of Environment and Natural Resources has expanded the Energy Efficiency Incentive Program (EEIP) to include rebates for doors, windows and drain water heat recovery (DWHR) systems. These rebates are for purchases made after March 31, 2010.
NWT residents live in climate Zone "D" – the coldest climate zone in Canada. Improving the energy efficiency of your home's windows and doors can substantially improve comfort. It can also reduce your home's energy use and cut down on greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change. ENERGY STAR© windows and doors certified for Climate Zone D will:
•reduce your home energy costs,
•reduce or eliminate cold drafts,
•collect less condensation, and
•reduce noise from outside.
In order to receive a rebate for a window or door the make and model number needs to be listed on the Natural Resources Canada website showing that is rated ENERGY STAR for Zone D.
DWHR systems consist of copper tubes wrapped around a copper drain pipe. Warmth from water draining from your shower in the copper drain pipe heats cold water entering your home in the copper tube wrapped around the drain pipe. Heating water can account for 20-30% of your home's energy usage, and a DWHR system can reclaim up to 40% of that energy – and reduce you greenhouse gas emissions.
